--- | Detailed Personality | ---
A'loq is an aloof Hingan-raised Miqo'te, primarily recognized as the Song Keeper across Etheirys. It took much dedication and grief for A'loq to earn his title. Though he is weighed down by the tales of the fallen in all their tragic and horrific glory, he stands tall to perform until the finale to conduct his allies to a definitive triumph.Victory has always tasted bittersweet on the tongue of the Warrior of Light who has always felt others' emotions as if they were his own, but he would rather allow the wounds to fester than to forget. To forget is to allow the memory of what once lived to die. If he must bear this weight, then so be it.
Just go with the flow: A'loq is a follower. He takes orders and rarely gives out his own. In fact, he needs direct orders, otherwise he'll vanish for several days (even weeks) on end to find something to to do on his own. However, he'll only follow those he trusts will lead him in the right direction.Music Maestro: Growing up under a retired senior geiko granted A'loq significant insight into the traditional performing arts of Hingashi. He also held street performances during his travels to earn extra gil and fervently studied the music of the cultures he came across on his travels. Composition, performance, conducting... he is a virtuoso of music, hence his title. He speaks!?: A’loq hates to overshare and strongly prefers actions over words. People who know him well will note that he’s careful with his words (commonly repeating himself and correcting his own wording), gives brief answers (“yes,” “of course,” “no thanks” without further explanation). Other notable speech habits are his tendency to speak more respectfully to authority figures, to frequently mention his loved ones, and to tease and be sarcastic on occasion.Wanderer: It's difficult for A'loq to stay in one place. He loves to explore, taking every opportunity to travel Etheirys and experience life outside of the familiar. Because of his vast travel experience, A'loq is quite knowledgeable about the cultures, traditions, and histories of the regions he's journeyed through. All or Nothing: A'loq loves to gamble for the thrills and rewards alike, but much to his misfortune, he is a horrible gambler. Similar to being in a battle, he never knows when to back down from a challenge which oft lands him in trouble at the Gold Saucer.Weak to Kids: Around kids, A'loq becomes more excitable and open. He can't help but change his tune around them and finds it difficult to say 'no' to a child's wishes. Prior to the Doman Enclave Restoration project, A'loq could often be found lugging around the members of the Doman Adventurers' Guild in Mor Dhona with an exhausted smile on his face.
Jumping into the fray: A'loq takes the time to observe his opponents and surroundings before jumping into the fray, but he has a tendency to act recklessly in the midst of battle. This is why he heavily relies on others for more constructive plans of action. He can also be incredibly self-sacrificing, focusing on the present rather than the potential consequences of the risks he takes. His utter lack of fear frightens, or at a minimum, concerns most people.Wallflower: A'loq holds odd boundaries when it comes to socializing; he's unable to engage in lengthy conversations or give a speech in front of an audience, but he can and will listen to people talk for hours. He isn't innately competent at fitting into social situations and will often leave gatherings and parties early unless he has a performance. Most of the friendships he treasures were built through circumstance rather than choice.Catalyst for change: A'loq favors others' well-being over his own and genuinely believes that placing others' needs above himself makes him a better person. His compulsive need to "rescue" others can lead him to become frustrated when his offers of help are turned away. Yes, it is incredibly unhealthy.Under lock and key: With most of his history buried under vague and deflective explanations, even his closest allies would be lying if they said that they truly knew A'loq. To A'loq, it's unnecessary to share anything about himself outside of what people really need to know, but he gradually learns to open up.The Unforgotten: Following his abiding desire to preserve history and the tales of the forgotten, A'loq values his time spent with people, regardless of whether he cares for them or despises them. He will take the time to understand you. If he has anything to say about it, the voiceless will not be forgotten, swept away in the chaos of the world. Even his unforgivable enemies will have their own page in his book of songs.

--- | COMBAT EXPERTISE | ---
A'loq is recognized as a physical ranged and melee fighter, the occasional tank, and a clumsy and timid healer. He cannot manipulate his own aether; as a result, he relies on his aetherotransformer to draw upon it. His speed and endurance are incredibly high which usually allows him to outlast his opponents. He also aims for his opponents' weak points in an effort to defeat them swiftly. As a talented marksman, A'loq is capable of wielding bows, firearms, and even a Garlean gunblade into the heat of battle. What he lacks in spellcasting he makes up for with his boundless reservoir of aether and Hydaelyn's Blessing of Light. Every arrow and bullet he shoots is so potently charged with aether that he is capable of felling beasts and Magitek alike in one expertly aimed shot.Following the events of Endwalker, A'loq discovered his penchant for manipulating dynamis and explored these abilities independently.[ Select the job icons to read more ]

--- | Strengths | ---
MUSIC & DYNAMIS ⸻ A'loq picks up new instruments fairly easily with consistent practice, but he primarily plays the lyre, violin, and piano.
Despite his inability to handle his own emotions responsibly, his strongest and most well-known ability as a Warrior of Light is his ability to sense and influence others’ emotions. Via his desire to protect his loved ones and aid his comrades, he can interpret songs from his soul stone or compose original pieces that hold sway over the hearts of men.MARKSMANSHIP ⸻ His impeccable aim makes him a force to reckon with on the battlefield, whether he's wielding his bow, firearms, or Garlean gunblade.MACHINE EMPATHY ⸻ Despite his humble protests, A'loq is a rather skilled machinist. He was taught the basics of machine maintenance and the inner mechanics of Magitek by Phaedrus, one of his adoptive fathers. His keen eyes allow him to effectively identify defects and areas for improvement. If he trained more diligently, he could become a skilled engineer, but he adamantly refuses to due to his complex past with Garlean Magitek.CELESTIAL READINGS ⸻ Reading the heavens is an art of interpretation, but according to Leveva, A’loq mastered it and made it into his own art of communication with the stars themselves. Although he rarely performs readings, his interpretations in divining fates tend to be highly accurate. While other astrologians may become trapped by their vacillation between readings, A’loq follows his heart and claims that there is always one reading which stands out.
--- | WEAKNESSES | ---
AETHER DISABILITY ⸻ A'loq was born under the Garlean Empire as part of a research study to design a weapon that could suppress other races' ability to manipulate aether and use magick. As a result of genetic modification, it is impossible for A'loq to manipulate aether without the aetherotransformer gifted to him by Stephanivien. However, the device only allows him to release aether in bursts meaning that he can't charge or cast spells. His aether condition is similar to Thancred’s, but unlike Thancred’s aether which is unstable, A’loq’s boundless aether is seemingly trapped inside of him.By the events of Endwalker, A'loq manages to upgrade his aetherotransformer and becomes capable of casting spells. With this, he becomes able to utilize the full potential of his AST soul crystal, but expending aether this way easily tires him out more than the average person.PHOBIAS ⸻ A'loq has toxiphobia (fear of being poisoned or drugged), pharmacophobia (fear of taking medicine), and trypanophobia (fear of injections and needles) as a result of his traumatic experiences within the Castrum.ACADEMICS ⸻ Although A'loq is musically and mechanically inclined, he lacks in most other academic disciplines. He's literate, but not well-read. He learns best through a hands-on approach and is not the studious type. It's incredibly difficult for him to fully understand and retain what he learns in fields such as aetherology and alchemy. Dry reading is seven hells for him.

"Welcome back, A'loq. In your eyes I see a layer of understanding… of regret, and of futility. And in your heart? It now echoes with the strains of an old song, newly discovered. Embrace this song, and as you play it in battle shall ever more powerful emotions beset and temper your soul. When your stock of tales has grown, pray return and regale me with stories of your adventures.”
- Jehantel⊹ ⊹ ⊹When A'loq first arrived in New Gridania, Mother Miounne advised that he lay down his gunblade and instead, learn to wield a bow and arrow to demonstrate his willingness to adapt to Gridanian customs. It would be challenging for most to imagine A’loq as a novice archer, but in the early days, he could barely hit an archery target, let alone a moving target like a squirrel. After months of rigorous training in the Quiver’s Hold, A’loq was tasked with investigating poacher activity in the Twelveswood. He joined forces with Silvairre and Leih Aliapoh, and captured Pawah Mujuuk. Eventually, he was scouted by the God's Quiver and served within their ranks until the fateful day he met Papalymo and Yda.Not long after attaining mastery of the bow, A’loq encountered Jehantel in the South Shroud. He studied the art of battle songs under Jehantel’s tutelage and traveled frequently with Sanson and Guydelot to embrace his calling. His battlesongs- their purpose often underestimated or misunderstood- are another weapon he wields terrifically in battle. The songs he performs produce tidal waves of sound which strengthen, calm, and even rejuvenate the most tumultuous souls of soldiers. Combined with the collective unconscious from his astrology studies, A'loq has an incredibly strong sense of others' emotions and can adjust his battlesongs accordingly. Using the sounds of the surrounding natural world and the emotions of his allies (and enemies), he has composed many songs throughout his journey.Following his return from Ultima Thule, A'loq sought to investigate the untapped potential of dynamis and its potential ties to his own battlesongs.

"I work at the manufactory in Ishgard. I once watched my superior─as is his way─dismantle a magitek armament and put it back together again. He succeeded in bypassing the verification mechanism required to activate the machine by rewiring it."
- Rimelnaud⊹ ⊹ ⊹A'loq was scouted by Stephanivien de Haillenarte on a late night in the Forgotten Knight, shortly following his arrival in Ishgard. It was friendship at first sight for the two machinists. A'loq found Stephanivien's aetherotransformer invention fascinating and despite his initial hesitation, agreed to train under Rostnstahl as a machinist in exchange for usage of the aetherotransformer and free upgrades.Becoming a machinist required A'loq to adapt new ranged techniques, separate from those he had learned as an archer. A’loq was able to prove his mettle against the Dravanian horde and Nidhogg all under the Skysteel Manufactory name. Now if only someone could convince him that flamethrowers, chainsaws, and guns aren't the solution to all of his problems...Although A’loq is fascinated by Magitek, memories of unreasonable hours of work in the Garlean Castrum that held him captive as a child has left a permanent scar and made him reluctant to indulge himself in any engineering work. Cid and Nero (though he would deny it) actively try to help him overcome his doubts and use his skills for the greater good.A’loq is well-versed in detecting defects and making repairs largely in part due to the training his adoptive father, Phaedrus, put him through, but he can’t design or make anything decent from scratch if his life depended on it. He spends most of his time thinking of absurd ways to enhance his firearms to most of the Scions’ dismay. In the future, A’loq becomes a skilled orchestrion maker and invests most of his time crafting music mechanisms.

"But when you came to our rescue that day, you acted without a thought for your own safety to aid those in need. This is the true essence of the gunbreaker. You have your own ideals to protect, your own promises to keep. Go forth, A'loq, and follow your path, wherever it may lead."
- Radovan⊹ ⊹ ⊹A'loq primarily wielded a Garlean gunblade during his travels, which most assumed was a weapon he stole off of a soldier. In reality, mors vincit omnia (death conquers all) was handed down to him by his adoptive father, Phaedrus quo Modesto. Much later on, A'loq encounters and saves Radovan and Sophie, and Radovan offers to teach him how to wield the genuine article. Even after rigorous training under Radovan with his new gunblade, memento vivere (remember to live), A'loq continues to carry both gunblades and decides which to wield based on circumstance.Shortly after the Sorrow of Werlyt questline, A’loq exchanged information about his past with Gaius van Baelsar to learn an aether-based version of Terminus est, crocea mors he would name Terminus est, victoria aut mors (It is the end, Victory or Death)."Morning Lion" is a fond nickname given to him by Urianger, and later picked up by the rest of the Scions.[ Other known titles: ... of the Singing Sword ]

"Someone closely attuned with that aether can, in a sense, link themselves with others, feeling their joy, feeling their pain. Scholars of the soul call this empathy. Crystal-gazers and card-readers call it the wheel of fortune. We astrologians call it collective unconsciousness. Whatever you call it, I feel that bond with you. Both of you. Thank you."
- Leveva⊹ ⊹ ⊹A'loq was pressured into studying Sharlayan astromancy by Jannequinard when they first met in the streets of Ishgard. His healing potential was incredibly weak due to his inability to manipulate aether. However, Leveva found that he had a gift for celestial navigation due to his experiences on the road and for utilizing the collective unconscious because of his bard training.A'loq abruptly abandoned his studies shortly after Haurchefant's death, after having unknowingly read his lover's fate before storming the Vault. It wasn't until he traveled to the First that he resumed his studies with Urianger.A’loq uses the collective unconscious to his advantage with other jobs, often sensing the emotions of his close allies to determine what battlesongs to perform.

"If you think the flower that blossoms at the very end of its life is beautiful, even a little, then I tell you this: Please survive. Through tomorrow, too... And through the tomorrows after that. No matter how glorious your end, if it costs you your life, then I cannot look at it... If you understand, then try to moderate your recklessness. I'm always trying with all my might that you might live."- Shadow of a Hero[ JPN Dialogue Translation Source ]⊹ ⊹ ⊹Darkness has been ever present inside of A'loq. Because of the trauma he has endured and the emotions and memories he has internalized as a bard, his darkness gradually grew stronger over the course of his journey as a Warrior of Light.Afterall, a seed will grow under the right conditions.Once A'loq reached the First, his inner darkness finally began to make itself known and physically manifest. What made his situation worse was his aether condition, preventing the darkness from being naturally released apart from when he released his aether through his aetherotransformer. Without a Dark Knight soulstone or the guidance of a mentor, his attacks became unintentionally destructive, consisting of unsettling shadowy flames. A'loq would develop an all-consuming hunger for battle against the sin eaters and struggled to reason with the tempting voice that put all of his feelings into words that had always escaped him.His time on the First was a harrowing experience, but one he successfully overcame with the support of the Scions and Ardbert. Even after returning to the Source, A'loq's inner darkness remains due to the burdens he continues to bear for the world. It still demands that he hearkens to its voice. A'loq need only ask, and yet for the sake of love, he carries on as he always has.A'loq does not wield a greatsword and avoids intentionally utilizing the dark arts. The darkness seems to be indecisive on his own name. So far, he has introduced himself as "Mercy."

Two Seekers were captured by Garlean forces and brought into captivity. Through in vitro fertilisation, A'loq was born and became a subject of a genealogy and medical research study. The studies were a part of a larger project to design a weapon that could suppress other races' ability to use magick. Within the Castrum where he was raised, A'loq was subjected to intrusive procedures, interviews, and experiments, and when he wasn't, he was an assistant for the legion's engineers. However, A'loq found solace through time spent with the other children and their caretakers, chief medicus Celio lux Salvius and centurio Phaedrus quo Modesto.Celio disapproved of the conducted experiments and the changes in policy regarding the treatment of non-Garleans under the new Legatus of his legion. Phaedrus, his close friend at the time, found a woman in Kugane willing to raise the children once they were brought to her. In exchange for all of his research and inventions without credit, Celio made an agreement with the Legatus to defect from the legion with the children. To his surprise, the Legatus accepted the deal.
Celio and the four children (two Raen Au Ra brothers by blood, a Hyur girl, and A'loq) traveled to Kugane to leave them in the care of the woman, Satsuki, a retired geiko. She would care for the four of them and raise them to learn the art of performance.Contrary to Celio's original plans to leave the children behind, Satsuki convinced him to conceal his identity and remain in Kugane. As a result, Celio became a medic in the Rakuza District. Years later, Phaedrus would follow suit, deserting the legion in the middle of battle and becoming a repairman/blacksmith in Kokajiya.Although A'loq showed promise as a musician, he was stubborn during his childhood. It was common for him to rebel against his mentors by ignoring them or refusing to speak to them, and he often skipped practice to pursue his dreams of becoming an adventurer instead. He was a bad influence on his younger brother.
Eventually, his parents reluctantly decided to support his dreams. Phaedrus took him on a journey to Othard, revealing that he had hidden away his battered Magitek Armor in the wilderness shortly after defecting. Over the next several months, Phaedrus taught A'loq how to fight with a Garlean gunblade and how to repair various pieces of Magitek, requiring him to fix the Magitek Armor and beat him in combat if he wanted to leave home.Eventually, A'loq accomplished both of Phaedrus' set objectives. He left Kugane and spent five years traveling, completing odd jobs to make ends meet and gaining a plethora of experience. Most of these jobs involved work as a hired machinist or musician. One of these years was spent with the Qalli on the Azim Steppe, adapting to their method of communication through song. He spent some time traveling with a Viera, Ashelia or Ashe for short, and traveled with her through Doma, Dalmasca, and Thavnair. Another year was spent once again in Garlean captivity, forced to serve as a musician under the IVth Imperial Legion to prepare for an upcoming ceremony attended by Emperor Solus, and learning traditional Garlean music and piano until he made his escape.Around the age of 22, A'loq began to experience visions and fainting spells which became a detriment to his travels.
A'loq settled in Gridania around the age of 23. As an outsider, it took him a long time to adjust to living in Gridania. His presence was not initially welcomed until he proved his resourcefulness and dedication to work and received Miounne's support. Under Miounne's guidance, A'loq next joined the Quiver's Hold which better suited him once he mastered the bow and arrow. He worked closely with his partners Silvairre and Leih Aliapoh. The three, despite their differences, managed to capture poachers including the infamous Pawah Mujuuk. Eventually, he would become a member of the God's Quiver and around this time, A'loq began training under Jehantel in the South Shroud who taught him everything he knows about battlesongs.Around the age of 26, A'loq met Yda and Papalymo... and reunited with Ashe, now known as Dove Carline, in Gridania which is when his story began to follow the main questline.

❖ Celio lux Salvus ❖
Former Primus Medicus, Apothecary
[ 47 | He/Him | Adoptive Father ]Celio comes off as a sensitive individual, but he is ambitious and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. The Salvus household had been in decline, but Celio's grand achievements in the medical field restored their name. The Legatus of his legion passed away from old age, and the new Legatus proved to be an absolute immoral degenerate in Celio's eyes, going against all of his personal values. Working with Phaedrus, Celio traded credit for his life's work for the safety of four children under his care and deserted.

❖ Phaedrus quo Modesto ❖
Former Centurio, Engineer, Blacksmith
[ 45 | He/Him | RPR | Adoptive Father ]A hot-blooded graduate of the Magitek Academy, Phaedrus is an innovative engineer and was known within his Legion for his unusual Magitek and weapons designs. He was offered a position as a Tribunus Militum by his Legatus, but he (not so kindly) rejected the offer. Phaedrus deserted the legion not long after Celio to follow after him and the children. For a brief time, he worked under Drusilla in Ul'dah to earn gil and secure safe passage to Kugane, picking up a scythe to combat the voidsent he was hired to eliminate.

Dove Carline
Loyal attendant to the Warrior of Light
[ 37 by EW | She/Her | WHM, DNC, BTN | Queerplatonic Partner ]Dove is cheery and laid-back, the first to offer encouragement in a tough situation and the last to pose a complaint. Dove is possessed of the echo herself, an unwanted blessing which led to her quiet exile from the Golmore jungle. Having settled in the Twelveswood after years of busking as a dancer, she’s swept up in the chaos at the heels of her best friend, keeping him on his feet through battle after battle as Hydaelyn’s reluctant second champion. In moments of peace, she can be found practicing her footwork to ensure she doesn’t grow too rusty, or dropping back in at the conjurer’s guild to distract her mentees from their lessons.- Description written by Dove's creator, Summer

❖ Emmanellain ❖
These two get along like a house on fire. Nobody really understands how, but they manage. The lordling tends to be the first person A'loq visits on his returns to Ishgard, and their usual reunions consist of Emmanellain complaining about his first-world problems and A'loq being his accessory to exercises in courtship and his model for dress-up.

❖ Estinien ❖
Their relationship is simple: they beat each others' arses. In all seriousness, they are incredibly loyal to one another. Maybe it's the dravanian ties. Maybe it's the all-consuming anger that once controlled them. Maybe it's their inability to be frugal with gil. Whatever the case, it seems like Estinien is with him for the long run regardless of what kind of trouble A'loq gets himself into.

❖ G'raha ❖
Although they've only known each other for a short time (in A'loq's case at least), these two act like old friends. They respect- and even revere each other, all while being able to mess around like children. However, both G'raha and A'loq tend to break the promises they make with each other very easily, which strains their friendship.

❖ Nero ❖
Although A'loq would rather acknowledge him as a forced ally, Nero believes that it's high time the Warrior of Light puts more trust in him. Ever since Nero caught wind of A'loq's machinist skills, he's been insistent on making him an apprentice to further solidify his place as the greatest engineer of the century. As one can imagine, A'loq is doing his best to avoid contact with him.

❖ Gaius ❖
Gaius and A'loq have... a complicated relationship. If one asked, they would claim that they tolerate each other at best, but Cid and Allie would say otherwise. They were able to pilot the G-Savior together after all. Following the events of the Sorrow of Werlyt, Gaius personally trains A'loq and teaches him several new gunblade techniques.

❖ Jannequinard ❖
They bond through slacking on their astrologian studies, although lately A'loq has been studying under Urianger's tutelage and has left Jannequinard in the dust (which he only feels a little betrayed over). A'loq appreciates how Jannequinard treats him as an equal friend, and they willingly share their troubles with one another.

❖ Mikoto ❖
The two first met on the Prima Vista, but it wasn't until they joined forces again on the Bozjan Southern Front that they became close. A'loq rarely understands Mikoto's jargon on aetherology, but she's great at hiding secrets. They often confided in each other on the battlefield, and A'loq was trusted with her fatal vision until he was forced to reveal the truth.

❖ Haurchefant ❖
Haurchefant was A'loq's first lover. Their connection was a natural one, and it surprised A'loq just how easily they fell into one another. Haurchefant's boundless patience was a blessing for him, especially as he explored romance for the first time. He trusted the Fortemps knight with the sides he had kept hidden from others and felt seen in his entirety. There was always a certain comfort in being by Haurchefant's side, and he kept him strong through the events of Heavensward... until he lost him at the peak of the Vault.A'loq was overcome with grief after losing Haurchefant. He held himself together to the best of his abilities, then unleashed his rage in his battle against King Thordan and the Heavens' Ward. Following the events of Heavensward, A'loq began to openly embrace his own strength, though the loss of his lover is a burden that will never fade away. He visits Haurchefant's memorial often. In fact, it may be his most visited destination out of all his travels.Fics - In days less dignified, and we'll have enough light (we can make it through the winter), Grief

❖ Leofard ❖
Leofard was charming. Despite the fact that A'loq was still heavily affected by Haurchefant's death, he found it hard to refuse his advances. Eventually, they became lovers and A'loq would remain with the Redbills for several moons.Their relationship, however, was short-lived. Despite how well they got along, A'loq could not let go of his feelings for Haurchefant. He began to search for Haurchefant in places that he couldn't be found, and eventually, Leofard caught onto the fact that he was less of a lover and more of a stand-in to A'loq. Leofard broke off their relationship, and while the two separated on good terms, they agreed not to see each other for at least several moons.Leofard and A'loq are slowly mending their relationship. They've become close friends again as of post-Endwalker.Fics - You keep your distance with a system of touch

❖ Thancred & Urianger❖
A'loq has always been close to Thancred and Urianger, though it wasn't until years down the road during the events of Shadowbringers that he realized his romantic feelings for them. However, the loss of Haurchefant and his experience with Leofard made him hesitant to confess, so instead, he resolved to keep his feelings hidden. Following the events of Endwalker however, Thancred and Urianger became eternally bonded and A'loq believed that he had lost that opportunity.Though he was happy for them, he became anxious about the distance between them. This along with his unsettled emotions and trauma from the events of Endwalker drew him into isolation. He severed all methods of communication with the Scions and began assisting Dreamingway in Hoper's Hold and Jammingway and N-7000 at the Last Dregs. Eventually however, it was Thancred and Urianger who found him on Mare Lamentorum and dragged him home following a disastrous Excitatron 6000 run that wounded him. After much discussion and time spent together over the next several moons, Thancred and Urianger would confess their feelings for A'loq and the three negotiated a polyamorous relationship. A short time later, the three were eternally bonded in a much more private ceremony held in the Rising Stones.Fics - Meet me on the Moon, Bozjan Mayhem
--- | TRIVIA | ---
He gives most of his gil away to people in need and wastes the rest on gambling. He never thinks to save any of it for the future.
Very obviously has a thing for people who are taller than him.
Regularly writes letters to his family in Kugane.
Although A'loq was never part of a tribe, he chose for his last name to be 'Tia.'
Really good at remembering names and faces.
In the future, A'loq acts as an ambassador of the Eorzean alliance, primarily traveling between societies as an Astrologian.
A'loq didn't always have brown highlights in his hair. After Ardbert entrusted his soul to him, his hair changed color. He also has a higher alcohol tolerance for totally unrelated reasons now.
Despite his quiet nature, he has a very loud laugh and finds it hard to hold back his laughter when he finds something funny.
Up until mid-Heavensward, he almost always wore some sort of hat or mask on his face. He used to be cautious about sharing his identity as the Warrior of Light but gave up trying to conceal it.
Completely changes his tune around kids. He's very good at taking care of them.
Occasionally wears non-prescription glasses because he thinks they make him look smart.

--- | Aelle Amelnaru | ---

Aelle Amelnaru was Azem’s shard of the Fifth, the first shard to rejoin with the Source during the First Umbral Calamity. An artist-in-residence, Aelle spent many years studying the finer points of erudition and etiquette to earn a position as a court bard in his kingdom.Aelle was not the Warrior of Light, though he was gifted with the Echo. That role was filled by his close friend, also known as their kingdom's Captain of the Royal Guard. Before settling down in the kingdom, the two were travelers who traversed the world alongside one another.

Not long after becoming a member of the Royal Court, Aelle was selected by Emet-Selch to fill Azem’s seat despite the Ascians’ dissent due to Azem opposing their cause and vacating his seat on the Convocation. At the time, Emet-Selch was still optimistic of the sundered’s potential. He entrusted Azem’s crystal to Aelle, hoping to prove the futility of fighting against the Great Rejoining and show him the glory of the unsundered world. Aelle would accept the crystal and began to use his position in the court to work his influence within the royal court in service of the Ascians.Unexpectedly, Aelle became close to Elidibus who acted as the Empress' royal advisor. While they were both somewhat aware of each others' hidden intentions, they acted like old friends around one another and conducted research and experiments on restoring the unsundered world together.

Eventually however, Aelle turned on the Ascians. He revealed that he had secretly been in contact with the Warrior of Light since the beginning and had only become an Ascian to gather information on their schemes. While Emet-Selch and Lahabrea fought against the Warrior of Light and the rest of the Royal Guard, Aelle attempted to use the mysterious crystal (known as white auracite on the Source) to fight against Elidibus in the void, but Elidibus had long seen through his deceit and warded off his attack.

Elidibus killed Aelle without hesitation and would later report his death to Emet-Selch once the Warrior of Light had been dispatched of. He admonished Emet-Selch for his naivety in a shard of Azem’s presence. These events were enough to disillusion Emet-Selch and to view the sundered as feeble and distorted reflections of the people he once knew.

The Ascians continued their search for ways to merge the shards to the Source using Elidibus and Aelle's research. Emet-Selch would have his first taste of power, taking the kingdom by force when the people brought the Warrior of Light and Aelle's deaths into question. With no one left to hinder their efforts, the Ascians were free to bring about the First Umbral Calamity- the first rejoining.

--- | Aitala Mariden | ---

Aitala Mariden is Azem's shard of the Thirteenth, the void. Once a traveling scholar and healer, she took up arms as a memoriate to seal away the summoned eidolon, and later to defeat her follow corrupted memoriates consumed by power.

Aitala hailed from a humble farming village, home to many retired adventurers and warriors. To her surprise, she was one day approached by a retired healer residing in the village who had recognized her unusual talent for harnessing the elements. They would teach her everything they knew- until their lives were uprooted by an eidolon attack. While the rest of her village was either brutally slain or subjugated by the eidolon's aether, Aitala was spared through the Blessing of Light. This did not deter the eidolon who continued to force devastating amounts of aether into her body. The stress of fighting off its influence strengthened her power and the echo, but weakened her physical body- turning her frail and her hair white.

In the end, it was Aitala's mentor who saved her life and sacrificed their own to grant Aitala an opportunity to escape. Aitala fled and was eventually found by memoriates who were en route toward the village. Under their protection, Aitala recovered. She began to hear Hydaelyn's voice and vowed to use her newfound strength to combat the eidolon menace and the enigmatic forces that were spreading the art of eidolon summoning around the world.

In the midst of her journeys, Hydaelyn instructed Aitala to find a young man by the name of Edge, her chosen Warrior of Light of the Thirteenth. Edge had a similar background as Aitala, having come from a town devastated by an eidolon, but he had yet to find confidence in his own abilities or the courage to face a true enemy in battle outside of training. Aitala personally trained Edge and kept them in hiding when they were pursued by corrupted memoriates and eventually, Ascians. Both Aitala and Edge would also don white robes to distinguish themselves from the memoriates as more of them were corrupted.

After some time, Aitala and the Warrior of Light became privy to the Ascians plans to rejoin the Thirteenth to the Source. With this in mind, they planned a failsafe as the war reached its peak. Seeing that the world was at a point of no return, they faced Igeyorhm together, and were outmatched- as planned. Aitala manipulated Igeyorhm, claiming that killing the Thirteenth's Watcher of the Moon would bring forth a calamity suitable for the rejoining. In an uncharacteristic show of cowardice, Aitala plead for her and the Warrior of Light's lives in exchange for this information, but both of them were immediately killed.

Choosing to use Aitala's knowledge, Igeyorhm in turn manipulated Durante to slay the Watcher. However, in a mad attempt to forestall the rejoining, Aitala had fed Igeyorhm misleading information. Once Zodiark's fragment was freed, its aether had no avenue to return to the Source. Aitala and the Warrior of Light's last act was to bring about the flood of darkness, allowing their world to become consumed rather than allowing rejoined to the Source. Aitala prayed however, that one day, the heroes of the distant future would find a way to reverse the devastation wrought by her sins and restore her world.

--- | Mesalina | ---

Mesalina (Mesa) was Azem's shard of the Source from the Third Astral Era. She hailed from Meracydia and was an oracle of her people.

Mesa was an eccentric, known for purposefully getting herself lost in the wilderness and using the stars to navigate her way home. From an early age, she would hear Hydaelyn's voice as distant whispers and followed her guidance to protect her people.

During the last years of the Third Astral Era, the Allagan Empire under Emperor Xande's rule initiated their invasion of Meracydia. Mesa witnessed the destruction of her home first-hand. Helpless, she fled with the remaining survivors. Eventully, she fought to the best of her ability alongside the resistance and Bahamut, but once Bahamut was slain, the tribes of Meracydia began to turn to eikons for salvation.

Though Hydaelyn urgently warned against this course of action, Mesa had lost trust in Her, blaming Her for Meracydia's imminent destruction. Mesa's role was crucial in the summoning of Sophia, the Goddess. Although she was shielded by the Blessing of Light, Mesa began to take her teachings of equilibrium to heart. She helped the Goddess temper many Meracydian souls to unite them against the Allagan Empire, imbuing their souls with a transcendent understanding of balance and harmony. Eventually, she became Sophia's trusted oracle.Mesa, like the Goddess, showed boundless benignity to her own tempered allies, but was merciless in battle. She even learned how to use the Echo to transcend her physical form, often stealing the bodies of slain Allagans to ensure her own survival in battles. Even when Emet-Selch confronted her, she used her cunning to outsmart him and destroy his mortal shell. She fled however, when Lahabrea arrived and wounded her in battle.
Before Sophia's imprisonment by the Allagans, Mesa received her direct instructions to conspire with a rebel faction within Allag. Those of the rebel faction tampered with the prison intended for Sophia. With this, Sophia and her most loyal thralls chanced to be captured, planning to attack from within the heart of Allag once the rebels could exploit the weakness in their confines and free them. Much to their chagrin however, their plans were discovered before they could be fulfilled, thanks to the Ascians' intervention.Out of desperation, Mesa took action on her own, leading Sophia's thralls in an attack on Allag. During the chaos, Mesa hoped to reach Sophia's prison, but was confronted by Lahabrea. He took Mesa unawares, managing to kill her in one decisive blow. While most Meracydians remembered her as a hero, the Allagans would remember her as a madwoman- hellbent on destroying everything in her path to enact her revenge.

--- | Nimue | ---

Nimue was Azem's shard of the Source from the Fifth Astral Era. She was a talented warmage, practicing the art of binding voidsent to her will in exchange for their verboten powers, an early form of the modern-day reaper.Nimue was a traveler, but she was fascinated by the works of the void mages of Mhach and chose to remain there and become a Mhachi citizen. She played a vital part in the creation of the Nullstone, defending the void mages as they tested the Nullstone's capabilities and summoned increasingly stronger voidsent with each experiment.

Eventually, Nimue's talent for harnessing the power of voidsent was recognized. The Coven granted her privilege of becoming High Voidmage Cessair's convoy. Over the years, the pair grew close and fell in love with one another. Although the two dreamed dreamed of a quiet life spent dedicated to the study of black magic (and practicing needlework), the War of the Magi was on the horizon, and both were dragged into the conflict between Mhach and Nym.

Nimue frequently traveled alongside Cessair to wherever the Coven commanded to wage war against the White Mages of Ampador. While the two were unmatched on the battlefield, Cessair grew more and more hesitant to step on the battlefield once she realized the destruction the war had wrought on the land's aether. Eventually, Cessair outright disregarded an order from the Coven and was imprisoned.

Cessair was put on trial and labeled as a traitor for her anti-war sentiments. It was also rumored that Nimue had turned on her, capturing Cessair for the Coven. In reality, Cessair had turned herself in under the guise of being captured by Nimue. Nimue acted as Cessair's eyes and ears in the world until she was granted a pardon to work on the Void Ark. Nimue also cared for her familiar, Cait Sith, in her absence.

Nimue accompanied Cessair onto the Ark. However, Scathach proved to be stronger than any of the void mages present. Nimue perished in her fight against the Shadow Queen, and Cessair and the 53 other void mages would sacrifice themselves to seal Scathach away.

ex meru moto.

Azem, Fourteenth seat of the Convocation, was responsible for traveling Etheirys and maintaining intimate relationships with its people as their counselor. Her true name was Aoede, the muse of voice and song in Greek Mythology. From an early age, Aoede was a maverick within Akadaemia Anyder. He often drifted between disciplines, starting as a student of Lahabrea which is how he met and befriended Erichthonios. Not long after, he was sought out by Altima for his musical talents- a short-lived mentorship due to the fact that Aoede cut ties with them, claiming that they were restricting his vision. Eventually, he became known for regularly shirking his studies to wander, much to the concern of his closest friends. When Aoede began to disappear for longer periods of time, her friends discovered that she was venturing outside of the city... far outside of Amaurot. However, Aoede appeared to be in higher spirits whenever she returned to Amaurot. Eventually, after a longer journey, she returned to Amaurot at Venat's side, having become Azem's protégé.Aoede was headstrong with a righteous streak, using the force of her personality and strength to pave a path for herself and others. However, her anger was something to fear; though she was only known to become angry on others' behalf, she often took matters too far. It was common to find her in the midst of duels against Emet-Selch and other Convocation members when she lost her patience with them, though she would never raise her axe against Emmerololth. Music brought her peace and carried her through her darker days.

During the chaos of the Final Days, Azem fervently opposed both the Convocation and Venat. Frustrated when no one would take his words to heart, he first fought on the streets of Amaurot until he was overwhelmed by the rampaging terminus. Emmerololth would heal him and drag him back to the Convocation. However, once he arrived, Aoede immediately vacated his seat and once again ventured outside of Amaurot to try and protect as many people as he could. In an all-consuming fit of rage, he fought, and fought, and was sundered.

The sundering failed to expunge Azem's hatred. Death after death, rebirth after rebirth, that selfsame rage would never fail to manifest within his shards. Some of Azem's shards are heroes, but most are simply souls who are willing to do whatever it takes to protect their loved ones... and to enact revenge against those who would harm them.
Aoede was bigender and used (he/him) and (she/her) pronouns interchangeably, regardless of what form she took. She shifted between two forms to present herself. In battle, Aoede was an all-rounder, capable of assuming any necessary role. In the Source, she would be recognized as a WAR, DRG, and AST based on the weapons and magicks she wielded.
--- | EMMEROLOLTH | ---

Emmerololth, the Seat with the foremost authority in medicine and healing was known as Thisbe to Aoede. The two grew up together and were queerplatonic partners. She was a talented healer who initially studied healing magic to patch Aoede over and over when they were younger. The two were so close that they often merged consciousness so that Aoede could share her adventures with Thisbe- sights and experiences that could not be communicated in words.

Short for her age with a permanent baby face, Thisbe often showed up to work in wrinkled robes and a bedhead. She was sweet enough that there were concerns about her being able to perform her role without causing herself turmoil, but at the end of the day, she was exacting and immovable as a healer. She succeeds or she fails, and failures are to be learned from so mistakes are not repeated.

Aoede and Thisbe were inseparable until the Final Days. Emmerololth as the authority of medicine and healing accepted the sacrifice of half of Etheirys for the sake of the future (this story of which is told here). As a healer and the arbiter of who lives and dies, she saw this sacrifice as that same role of judgement, just on a wider scale. Difficult decisions had to be made for the better good, and she was an unyielding force of the Convocation on the decision.

However, Thisbe sympathized with Aoede, understanding that she was simply thinking of the people of Etheirys due to her seat. Thisbe attempted to speak with Aoede one last time before she could leave Amaurot to convince her of the path the Convocation needed to take together.

Thisbe persuaded Aoede to bare their souls to one another- to merge consciousness once again. This time however, Thisbe tried to imprint her desires onto Aoede, to save him even if he didn’t want to be saved. Before this could happen, Aoede severed their connection and freed himself, raising his axe at her for the first time. Azem, feeling betrayed, and Emmerololth, in rage at being denied, separated and never saw each other again.
